It takes approximately one day to get one.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Why get a LEI code?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>According to the FCA:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>An LEI is a code unique to that legal entity or structure. When an LEI code is allocated to you, the code is included in a global data system. This enables every legal entity or structure that is a party to a relevant financial transaction to be identified in any jurisdiction.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So in other words, it&#8217;s there to promote transparency in the markets. If you want to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxymonkey.com\/how-to-invest-your-company-profits\/\">invest as a limited company<\/a>&nbsp;in funds and shares like I do, you will need a LEI code because you are a financial entity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If in doubt, ask your accountant or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxymonkey.com\/contact-me\/\">let me know<\/a> if you need an introduction to a good one. My accountant suggested I get a LEI code and it was also required by Interactive Investors when opening a company account.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How to register for a LEI code<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>I found there are many places where you can apply for a LEI code. In fact, there is a great website (<a href=\"https:\/\/lei.codes\/\">https:\/\/lei.codes<\/a>) where you can see all the options per country sorted by price.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That&#8217;s amazing thanks Christian Schmidt. I initially thought London Stock Exchange is the place to go but as expected, you&#8217;ll have to pay the price &#8211; \u00a3138 to be exact!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/lei.bloomberg.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Bloomberg<\/a>, on the other hand, is also well-known but quite cheap. So I chose them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"640\" height=\"328\" src=\"data:image\/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP\/\/\/yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7\" data-src=\"https:\/\/www.foxymonkey.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/lei-code-bloomberg.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-4787 lazyload\" data-srcset=\"https:\/\/www.foxymonkey.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/lei-code-bloomberg.png 640w, https:\/\/www.foxymonkey.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/lei-code-bloomberg-300x154.png 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><noscript><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"640\" height=\"328\" src=\"https:\/\/www.foxymonkey.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/lei-code-bloomberg.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-4787 lazyload\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.foxymonkey.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/lei-code-bloomberg.png 640w, https:\/\/www.foxymonkey.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/lei-code-bloomberg-300x154.png 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/noscript><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"schema-how-to wp-block-yoast-how-to-block\"><p class=\"schema-how-to-total-time\"><span class=\"schema-how-to-duration-time-text\">Time needed:&nbsp;<\/span>15 minutes. <\/p><p class=\"schema-how-to-description\">Here&#8217;s my step-by-step guide to getting a LEI code for your business.<\/p> <ol class=\"schema-how-to-steps\"><li class=\"schema-how-to-step\"><strong class=\"schema-how-to-step-name\">Create an account on lei.bloomberg.com&nbsp;<\/strong> <p class=\"schema-how-to-step-text\">You just need to provide your name, address, and basic company information.<br><\/p> <\/li><li class=\"schema-how-to-step\"><strong class=\"schema-how-to-step-name\">Start a new LEI Web Form application<\/strong> <p class=\"schema-how-to-step-text\">Fill in the company details like the legal name, registered address etc. My Registration Authority is England and Wales, and I have a private limited company but these may be different for you. <br><br>The only tricky bit is the &#8220;Relationship&#8221; section. I contacted Bloomberg, and since I&#8217;m a standalone Ltd, I had to put &#8220;I do not have a direct parent entity&#8221;, Exception Reason: &#8220;Natural Persons&#8221; or &#8220;No Known Person&#8221;. For the &#8220;Ultimate Parent&#8221; I selected &#8220;Same as Direct Parent.&#8221;<\/p> <\/li><li class=\"schema-how-to-step\"><strong class=\"schema-how-to-step-name\">Submit the company certificate of incorporation (PDF)&nbsp;<\/strong> <p class=\"schema-how-to-step-text\">It&#8217;s a drag and drop section.<\/p> <\/li><li class=\"schema-how-to-step\"><strong class=\"schema-how-to-step-name\">Download and Submit the Self-Authorization or the Third-Party Authorization form<\/strong> <p class=\"schema-how-to-step-text\">To put it simply, if you have created a Bloomberg account using your company e-mail address (bob@investmentcompany.co.uk) then use the Self-Authorization form. Otherwise, if you use a third-party e-mail like Gmail or iCloud, use the Third party authorization form. Fill in your company details in the &#8220;Authorising company&#8221; section and your personal details in the &#8220;Authorized person&#8221; section.<\/p> <\/li><li class=\"schema-how-to-step\"><strong class=\"schema-how-to-step-name\">Pay and finish!<\/strong> <p class=\"schema-how-to-step-text\">The LEI code costed \u00a359 (incl VAT) which is the equivalent of $65 + VAT. I&#8217;m not registered for VAT so I selected &#8220;private individual&#8221; in the payment section.&nbsp;Congratulations, you now have submitted your LEI code request.<\/p> <\/li><\/ol><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>All in all, it took me 15 minutes to complete the application once I had all the info. I hope I saved you some time here.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you decide to go with Bloomberg, they also have a User Guide and an <a href=\"https:\/\/lei.bloomberg.com\/docs\/faq\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">FAQ Section<\/a>.
